Welcome to The Bedford Ballet School
Founded by Karen Lowe, the Bedford Ballet School provide dance classes for children aged from 15 months through to graded RAD syllabus classes. We provide a fun but structured introduction to the joys of dance in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our founder; RAD Qualified Ballet Teacher, Karen Lowe
Before her move to Bedford, Karen founded The Kensington Ballet School in the demanding environment of West London. She continues to oversee the highly regarded London school along with her husband, Richard.
A classically trained ballerina and teacher, Karen was awarded a Cecchetti scholarship which enabled her to study with prestigious teachers such as the “Royal Ballet School”. She then furthered her dance education at the “Arts Educational Schools”, London.
Karen performed professionally as a solo artiste with various ballet companies in London and Europe, dancing in roles such as the pas de quatre in “Swan Lake” and Clara in “Nutcracker”. She has also performed in West End musicals including “Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London playing the role of Meg Giry.
Karen is a fully qualified Royal Academy of Dance teacher having taken the “Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma” at their Battersea headquarters.
About the classes
Parents are encouraged to participate with their children in the mum’s and baby’s class, and subsequently watch their progress as they move through the age-groups. There is a strong emphasis on theatrical performance from Karen who actively performs and demonstrates with the children.
Inspiring imagination
The classes are conducted to a mixture of classical and children’s music to help stimulate imagination, develop rhythm and encourage musicality. Exercises and storytelling help the pupils to learn the appropriate steps for their ages in an organised, creative atmosphere. The sessions further encourage balance and co-ordination whilst improving the child’s self-confidence.
Our aim is always that the children enjoy and look forward to their classes as an outlet to self-expression through movement and dance whilst providing a disciplined backdrop to participate in a group environment with other children.
